Former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan was ecstatic after Afghanistan’s thrilling eight-run victory over England at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium on February 26 in the 2025 Champions Trophy. Now a commentator, Pathan celebrated the win by dancing to ‘Afghan Jalebi’ from the Bollywood movie ‘Phantom’.
The match was crucial for both teams, with Afghanistan staying in the semifinal race while England faced a disappointing group-stage exit. Sharing his excitement over Hashmatullah Shahidi and his team’s triumph, Pathan took to Instagram and wrote:
“Another ICC win against England from Afghanistan. Well done.”

Afghanistan’s star spinner Rashid Khan reacted to Irfan Pathan‘s post with a playful comment. He jokingly complained about the 40-year-old dancing without him, writing:
“Bhai jan mere baghair dance haha [Brother you are dancing without me haha] thank you bhai for always support and love.”
Afghanistan defends 326 to defeat England in 2025 Champions Trophy
Afghanistan opted to bat first after winning the toss in their Group B clash against England. Opener Ibrahim Zadran delivered a record-breaking performance, scoring 177 off 146 balls—the highest individual score in Champions Trophy history.
His knock also set a new record for the highest ODI score by an Afghan batter, guiding the team to a total of 325/7 in 50 overs. Jofra Archer claimed three wickets, while Liam Livingstone picked up two.
England put up a strong fight in the chase, with star batter Joe Root scoring a superb century. He struck 120 off 111 balls, but his efforts went in vain as England were bowled out for 317. Azmatullah Omarzai starred with the ball, claiming a brilliant five-wicket haul.
Afghanistan currently sits third in the Group B standings and will take on Australia in their final group-stage match. A win in that game will secure their spot in the 2025 Champions Trophy semifinals. The crucial clash is set to take place at the same venue on Friday, February 28.
