Team India fast bowler Ishant Sharma bounced back with two consecutive wickets to put his side back after an ordinary day and a half against England in the first Test at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Ishant removed Jos Buttler and Jofra Archer of two consecutive deliveries after what has been a tiring day for Indian cricketers.
Joe Root batted for almost 500 minutes during his 218-run knock to keep the Indian bowlers at bay and post a monumental total on the scoreboard. Along the way, he shared significant partnerships with Dominic Sibley on day 1 followed by Ben Stokes and Ollie Pope to grind the likes of Ishant Sharma, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Jasprit Bumrah.
After dominating the first two sessions of day 2 where India managed to scalp only one wicket, the bowlers started to make things happen in the final session of the day. Ashwin removed Pope before Shahbaz Nadeem trapped Joe Root after his dominating knock before Ishant Sharma picked two consecutive wickets to put India back.

Ishant Sharma removes Jos Buttler, Jofra Archer in consecutive deliveries
The tall and lanky fast bowler, who was coming from an injury lay-off had to grind it out for almost two days before he was rewarded for the hard work. Ishant bowled the right areas throughout his spell hitting the deck but the wicket was not coming before an error of judgement from Jos Buttler unrattled his timber.
Ishant Sharma backed this with another; this time bowled a ripper of an in-swinger to caught Jofra Archer hanging on the off-stump. This was a length delivery that kept a tad low but Archer made the mistake of hanging back and completely missed this incoming delivery. The ball found the gap between the bat and the pad to knock the timber to have England at 525 for eight.
