[WATCH]- Jadeja Ends Konstas’ Brilliant Debut On Day 1 Of BGT 4th Test

India‘s experienced all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja claimed the visitors’ first wicket on Day 1 (Thursday, December 26) of the fourth Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 Test, trapping Australia debutant Sam Konstas LBW at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).

Konstas scored 16 runs off Bumrah’s fourth over, hitting two fours and a six, marking the first six Bumrah had conceded in Test cricket in almost four years. However, Jadeja ended Konstas’ entertaining knock by trapping him leg before in the 20th over.

The breakthrough came on the second ball of the 20th over when Jadeja delivered a full-length ball that slid across, beating Konstas’ inside edge and hitting his pads as he leaned forward. A confident appeal from Jadeja saw the umpire promptly raise his finger, giving India their first breakthrough.

Before his dismissal, Konstas impressed with a debut half-century. At 19 years and 85 days, he became Australia’s second-youngest Test half-centurion, scoring 60 off 65 balls with six fours and two sixes. His wicket left Australia at 89-1 in 19.2 overs.

Australia won the toss and chose to bat. The hosts made two changes, with Sam Konstas and Scott Boland replacing Josh Hazlewood and Nathan McSweeney. The visitors, on the other hand, brought in an extra spinner, Washington Sundar, replacing Shubman Gill.

Debutant Konstas confidently faced Bumrah in the third over, missing a reverse scoop at first but quickly settling in. In the seventh over, he struck two boundaries and a six off India’s pace leader.

The youngster brought up his fifty off 52 balls, allowing Usman Khawaja to settle at the other end. Konstas was eventually dismissed by Ravindra Jadeja for 60. At the time of writing, Australia were 103-1 after 23 overs, with Khawaja on 32 and Marnus Labuschagne on 9.
