[WATCH]- James Anderson Claims A Five-Wicket Haul For Lancashire vs Nottinghamshire

Experienced England seamer James Anderson prepares for his final Test by taking a five-wicket haul for Lancashire against Nottinghamshire in the ongoing County Championship Division 1 match. After a four-month absence, the 41-year-old captured six wickets in his first spell on Tuesday (July 2), sending the competition into disorder.

Anderson dismissed captain Haseeb Hameed, Will Young, Joe Clarke, Jay Haynes, Lyndon James, and Liam Patterson-White. None of these batsmen managed to reach double figures as Nottinghamshire collapsed to 40/6 at one point.

In preparation for England’s ambitions in the 2025-26 Ashes series in Australia, the management requested the right-arm seamer to retire from the format. Consequently, the upcoming first Test of the summer against the West Indies at Lord’s will mark the veteran’s 188th and final appearance.

Anderson achieved over 700 Test wickets during the India tour earlier this year, requiring nine more to surpass Shane Warne (708) as the second-highest wicket-taker in Test cricket, trailing only Muttiah Muralitharan (800).

James Anderson will take on the role of England’s fast-bowling mentor following his retirement

Meanwhile, Robert Key, England cricket’s managing director, is eager to retain the veteran’s expertise and has chosen to appoint him as a mentor. The former middle-order batsman remarked, as reported by Sky Sports:

“He’s got so much to offer English cricket, we don’t want to see that go. He’s going to be with us all summer. It’s something that he’s very keen to do as well. He hasn’t done loads and loads of it, but we’ve got no question about his knowledge and experience with bowling.”

“We have a great opportunity for the rest of the summer to find out just how much he enjoys it or doesn’t enjoy it. What he does with Lancashire, we’ll probably work out after the Lord’s Test.”

In addition to hosting the West Indies, England will also welcome Sri Lanka during the summer.
