James Anderson engaged in a spirited clash with Ravichandran Ashwin, culminating in the seasoned English bowler dismissing the Indian all-rounder with an exceptional delivery during the Vizag Test on Saturday.
At the start of the second day’s play, Ashwin began with a single-digit score but swiftly advanced to 20 with several boundaries. In the course of his innings, he had a dispute with Anderson at the non-striker’s end, seemingly regarding the bowler’s run-up.
In the 101st over, Anderson deceived Ashwin with a well-pitched delivery that moved away from the middle stump. Despite attempting to play it straight, the ball unexpectedly bounced off the surface, caught the outside edge, and grazed the pad before reaching the wicketkeeper.
Ashwin opted for a review, but the UltraEdge technology revealed a distinct spike near the bat, confirming the dismissal. You can watch the video here:

Anderson secured his second wicket in the Test, having previously dismissed Shubman Gill. In the preceding Test, England’s sole pacer, Mark Wood, failed to claim a wicket. To combat the track’s lack of assistance, Anderson effectively employed wobbled-seam deliveries, generating movement off the pitch.
Ashwin had expressed dissatisfaction with certain run-up concerns from other English bowlers on Friday. This led to an extensive discussion with the on-field umpires shortly after the day’s play, and the issue seemed to persist into Sunday.
Ashwin was another player who couldn’t make the most of his good start
Scoring 20 runs, he became the seventh Indian player to be dismissed for less than 35 runs. On Saturday, the rest of the team also got out after making a good start, often due to easy dismissals unexpectedly.
Consequently, India struggled to build partnerships, and most runs were contributed by opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, who achieved his first double century. However, Jaiswal was also dismissed shortly after, attempting a big shot against Anderson, resulting in Anderson securing his third wicket.
