India pacer Jasprit Bumrah sealed Australia’s second innings in the ongoing fourth Test by dismissing Nathan Lyon early on Day 5 (Monday, December 30) in Melbourne, with Lyon’s middle stump knocked out. Australia finished with 234 runs, setting India a target of 340 to take a series lead and retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT).
Lyon and Scott Boland frustrated the Indian bowlers in the final session of Day 4, playing over 100 balls together. However, they had no answer to a fresh Bumrah. The pacer, who had already taken four wickets after dismissing Sam Konstas and causing a middle-order collapse, struck again.
Australia added just six runs to their overnight score, with Boland hitting a boundary off Mohammed Siraj in the first over of the day, followed by two singles. Bumrah then took Lyon’s wicket with an incoming delivery.
The tailender left a large gap between his bat and pad while driving, allowing the ball to pass through easily. Bumrah stood motionless, glaring at Lyon as he completed his five-wicket haul. You can watch the video here:

The spearhead ended with figures of 5-57, marking his third five-wicket haul of the series. India now have 92 overs to either chase the target or survive, with both outcomes having significant implications for the series result and the World Test Championship (WTC) standings.
Bumrah dismissed Nathan Lyon on Day 4 of the 4th BGT Test, but overstepped
Jasprit Bumrah had dismissed Lyon in the final over of Day 4 when the latter edged the ball to KL Rahul in the slip cordon. However, instead of ending the hosts’ innings with Bumrah’s five-wicket haul, the on-field umpire called a no-ball.
The last-wicket partnership added 61 crucial runs for Australia, who were struggling at one point. Scott Boland remained not out on 15 from 74 balls. India began their run chase cautiously on Day 5, scoring just two runs from the first two overs of the final innings.
