[WATCH] Kamindu Mendis Grabs A Stunner To Dismiss Shubman Gill

Kamindu Mendis made an amazing reflex catch that sent Shubman Gill back to the pavilion in the second ODI match held between India and Sri Lanka at R Premdasa stadium in Colombo on Sunday, August 4th. With this, Gill left for 35 runs off 44 balls, missing another chance to make a big score against the islanders for two innings consecutively.

During team India’s run chase, the 18th over produced an amazing catch. Jeffrey Vandersay threw a slow leg breaker that landed outside off stump to entice Gill into driving the ball. However, this right-handed batsman could not do better than get a thick outside edge which went towards Kamindu standing at first slip on his right side. Kamindu then caught it with quick reflexes.

Sharing the video on X, Sony Sports Network stated:

“Kamindu Mendis grabs a blinder to send Shubman Gill packing.”

Shubman Gill’s dismissal leads to a collapse of India’s middle order in the IND vs SL game

The sprint of India’s wickets started when Shubman Gill was dismissed for the second ODI. Jaffrey Vandersay has taken all six Indian blows including those of Virat Kohli, Shivam Dube, Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul till now. Dube and Rahul both left without scoring any runs while Kohli and Iyer returned to the pavilion after scoring 14 (19) and 7 (9).

Presently, the Men in Blue had a score of 162-6 after 28.4 overs with Axar Patel and Washington Sundar at the crease. Batting first, Sri Lanka managed to register 240/9 in 50 overs.

In their response, the hosts had a shaky start as Pathum Nissanka left the first ball but Avishka Fernando (40 off 62) and Kusal Mendis (30 off 42) included additional runs for the second wicket. However, a total lack of contribution from the middle-order did not prevent Dunith Wellalage (39 off 35) and Kamindu Mendis (40 off 44) from leading the islanders to reasonable totals.

For the visitors, Washington Sundar shone bright with the ball as he claimed 3 wickets at the expense of 30 runs while Kuldeep Yadav pocketed two scalps. Mohammed Siraj and Axar Patel took apiece.

This match will determine the winner and according to the rules in these matches, they will lead 1-0 in the overall series of three one-day matches. In their first meeting, both sides amassed 230 runs, which led to a draw then.
