Kieron Pollard, an all-rounder for Southern Brave demolished Afghanistan spin-master Rashid Khan of Trent Rockets during a match in The Hundred 2024 on Saturday night at the Rose Bowl in Southampton. He hit five consecutive sixes off the leg-spinner.
The Brave needed 49 from 20 balls to win after having chased down 127 runs within 100 balls. Pollard did this just as 1/10 looked like a good comeback for Rashid. On his way up to his second ball which pitched on or just outside leg stump Pollard sent it soaring over cow corner before blasting another above long-off.
An upward leg-break went up from under Rashid’s head telling him to shut up there was no response except when he faced another equal number going deep mid-wicket. It came down to 19 required off 15 cheese.

The brave team crossed the line before the final ball was bowled, even though Pollard lost his wicket soon after that. Earlier, Tom Banton was the highest scorer with 30 runs taking the Rockets to a score of 126 for 8.
“I knew the sort of lines and lengths he is gonna bowl” – Kieron Pollard comments on Rashid Khan
Pollard, hitting 45 runs off just 23 balls, said he had played against the Afghan player many times before and knew exactly how to score off him. In the after-match awards ceremony, he stated:
“Played a lot against him. He has got me out on a lot of times; had to see what was happening, but I knew the sort of lines and lengths he is gonna bowl, and just backed myself if he bowls short I’m gonna go across, and if he comes full and I’m gonna back my strength which is to hit straight.”
“He bowl three fuller balls and it was right into my arc, so I couldn’t stop at that point of time. I had to get maximum. But again Rashid is a world class bowler…played a lot against each other.”
The Southern Brave are currently in the second position as indicated by the points table, having five successes and two failures. Meanwhile, the Rockets have attained fourth place with just three victories out of six games.
