Venkatesh Iyer Expresses Willingness to Take on KKR Captaincy
Defending champions KKR parted ways with former captain Shreyas Iyer ahead of the IPL 2025 auction and are now in search of a new leader. Venkatesh Iyer could be a strong contender for the important role.
The KKR management appears to have great confidence in his skills, as he was their most expensive buy at the IPL 2025 auction for ₹23.75 crore. Following his re-signing, Venkatesh expressed his desire to captain the three-time champions if given the chance.
“I’ve always believed that captaincy is just a tag, but leadership is about creating an environment where everyone feels they can play for this team and contribute. If given the responsibility, I would be more than happy to take it on. Absolutely (I’m ready for it),” he was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.
Venkatesh Iyer was a standout batter for Kolkata in IPL 2025, accumulating 370 runs in 13 innings. He scored vital unbeaten knocks of 51* and 52* against SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the Qualifier 1 and final, respectively.
