[WATCH]- KL Rahul Works Hard In The Gym Before The 2024 IND-AUS Test In Perth

KL Rahul has begun his preparations for the 2024 Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia with intense gym workouts. Along with Dhruv Jurel, he arrived in Australia early to join India A and adjust to local conditions ahead of the series.

With uncertainty surrounding Rohit Sharma’s availability for the first Test, KL Rahul and Abhimanyu Easwaran are competing for a potential backup role as an opener. However, both players struggled in the recent four-day match between India A and Australia A at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Rahul managed scores of 4 and 10, while Abhimanyu’s performances were 7, 12, 0, and 17 across two matches. KL Rahul shared a glimpse of his training routine on his official Instagram on Monday, posting a photo and video with the caption:

“Miles.”

“KL Rahul is fortunate to be getting these opportunities”- Sanjay Manjrekar before the IND vs AUS BGT 2024 Test series

Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar recently stated that KL Rahul should consider himself fortunate to have received multiple opportunities despite maintaining an average of only 33 after 53 Test matches, a situation uncommon in Indian cricket.

During a discussion on ESPNcricinfo, Manjrekar assessed the options for the opening slot in Rohit Sharma’s absence, emphasizing:

“I would actually say KL Rahul should consider himself very lucky to be getting opportunities. Such comebacks and opportunities, very few players over the years in the history of Indian cricket have been given this kind of a deal.”

“He’s got 100 in Australia. So that is why he keeps coming back into plans. Now the average has dropped to 33 after 50 Test matches. I guess somewhere they hope that Rahul might find that form that he’s capable of.”

Manjrekar urged the team management to make the right decision by selecting Abhimanyu Easwaran and advised against judging the Bengal batter without offering him a fair opportunity. He added:

“Maybe Abhimanyu Easwaran hasn’t convinced them as much. But it’s not for us to play God and decide that maybe Abhimanyu Easwaran won’t get run in the Test match. We’ve had many examples in the past where players have surprised you by the performances. So keep it simple and make the right choice.”
