Virat Kohli was ecstatic in the dressing room as Akash Deep smashed a massive six off Pat Cummins on Day 4 of the third Test against Australia at the Gabba, Brisbane. On Tuesday, December 17, India fought to avoid a follow-on against Australia’s fiery pace attack.
KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja scored resilient half-centuries to keep India afloat after the top order collapsed. However, Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc struck regularly, reducing India to 213/9, still 33 runs short of avoiding the follow-on.
Akash Deep and Jasprit Bumrah then batted sensibly, surviving a short-ball onslaught and forming an unbeaten 39-run partnership for the final wicket, rescuing India from a tough spot. Akash Deep (27*) also struck a remarkable six off Pat Cummins, triggering a priceless reaction from his teammate Virat Kohli. You can see Kohli’s reaction here:

“I believe the mind is deceiving me”- Dinesh Karthik on Kohli’s ongoing struggles with balls outside the off-stump
Former Indian cricketer Dinesh Karthik recently examined Virat Kohli’s dismissals in the ongoing BGT series, highlighting his difficulties with deliveries outside the off-stump. Speaking on Cricbuzz, Karthik shared his insights:
“If you are trying to tell me that Virat doesn’t know he shouldn’t be playing outside the off stump, I don’t think it is right. He is aware, he wants to leave it.”
He further added:
“But, as much as he is telling himself, when the game is on and he is in the middle and he is all alone, I think the mind is playing a trick, where the moment he sees it on release, his perception goes towards the ball and that is hampering him.”
The 39-year-old said, “Virat knows he shouldn’t be playing outside the off stump, but when he’s in the middle, the mind plays tricks. Despite his efforts, his perception draws him to the ball as soon as it’s released, which is affecting his performance.”
