[WATCH] LSG’s Mayank Yadav Prepares For His Return To IPL 2024

Lucknow Super Giants’ (LSG) fast bowler Mayank Yadav was absent from the team’s recent IPL 2024 matches against the Delhi Capitals (DC) and the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

Mayank only bowled one over during LSG’s match against the Gujarat Titans (GT) on April 7 before leaving the field due to discomfort in the lower abdomen. Fortunately, for LSG supporters, the promising young player has resumed bowling in training as he prepares to make a comeback.

On Wednesday, the Lucknow-based team posted a video on its official social media accounts showing Mayank Yadav bowling in the nets. The caption read:

“Phir se udd chala”

Mayank Yadav made waves with his impressive performances in his initial two matches for LSG. He troubled batsmen with his rapid pace, reaching speeds of up to 156.7 kph, surpassing his previous record of 155.8 kph for the fastest delivery of the season. The 21-year-old claimed three-wicket hauls against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), earning the Player of the Match award in both matches.

“We need to protect his body” – LSG captain KL Rahul on Mayank Yadav

During the post-match presentation following Lucknow’s six-wicket loss to the Delhi Capitals (DC) on April 12, captain KL Rahul mentioned that Mayank Yadav’s recovery is progressing positively. However, he emphasized that the team management will prioritize Mayank’s full recovery and won’t rush him back into action. Rahul stated:

“He (Mayank Yadav) is feeling good, he looks good, but we don’t want to rush him. We need to protect his body, he’s itching to go. Need to make sure that he’s hundred per cent (fit) before he comes back in a couple of matches.”

LSG faced losses against DC and KKR while Mayank was sidelined. His comeback will strengthen the team’s bowling unit as they aim to bounce back to winning form. Currently standing fifth in the points table with three wins and three losses from six matches, Lucknow will face Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at home on Friday, April 19.
