It was a landmark day as Madison Landsman grabbed the first hat trick of the ICC Under 19 World Cup. She achieved this feat during Group D match against Scotland played at Willmore Park, Benoni on 16 January 2023.
Scotland captain Katherine Fraser won the toss and decided to field first. It was a disastrous start for the South African side as they looked in deep trouble at 41 for 6. Kayla Reyenke put on an excellent batting display for the hosts along with Jenna Evans. Reyenke scored well complied half-century and added 69 runs for the 7th wicket. At the end of 20 overs, South African women posted 112 for 7.
The South African bowlers showed their discipline keeping the pressure on Scotland’s batters. Landsman was the pick of the action with 3 wickets in succession. She dismissed Maryam Faisal caught by Meso, Niamh Mur, and then castled the stumps of Orla Montgomery in the 15th over to rattle the Scotland team.
She ended with figures of 4 for 16 in 4 overs. South African women skittled out Scotland by 44 runs to register their first win of the tournament. Landsman was dismissed without opening her account on opening delivery she faced.

The leg break bowler showed her class keeping the Scotland batters guessing with her variations. South Africa lost to a strong Indian side in the first match by 7 wickets. South Africa would be looking to continue their impressive form during the next fixture against UAE.
Kayla Reyenke was the player of the match for her 53 off 49 balls and 1 for 11. South African batting looked out of sorts in today’s encounter against Scotland bowling. They need to make sure that their top order clicks in upcoming matches, especially during the Super Six stage.
South African women would be looking to impress once again in their next match against UAE on 18th January. The Indian women registered an emphatic 122 runs win over the United Arab Emirates in another Group D match.
