Australia’s injury woes continue to mount as the tournament progresses. Key all-rounder Marcus Stoinis suffered a painful hit to his left hand, forcing him to leave the field before finishing his over. Australia face Zimbabwe in their second ICC T20 World Cup 2026 match at Colombo’s R. Premadasa Stadium, where the African side has put up a resilient batting display.
Marcus Stoinis opened the bowling for Australia and claimed a wicket, living up to his reputation as a top-class allrounder.
Marcus Stoinis Leaves Field After Hand Injury
Australia struggled to take wickets during the middle overs. Spinners Adam Zampa and Matt Kuhnemann, along with Glenn Maxwell, were unable to break the partnership as Ryan Burl and Brian Bennett steadied the innings with a half-century stand.
Marcus Stoinis was brought on to bowl the 16th over in search of a breakthrough. While he bowled well, the fourth delivery was smashed over his head for a boundary. On the very next ball, another full toss came back sharply, and Stoinis misjudged it, getting struck on the metacarpals of his left hand.
He immediately signaled for medical attention and was assisted off the field by the physio. Cameron Green took over to bowl the final ball of the over. You can watch the video here:

Cameron Green Takes Wicket After Replacing Injured Marcus Stoinis
Marcus Stoinis left the field after being struck by a ball hit by Ryan Burl. Australian all-rounder Cameron Green, who had bowled only one over so far, was called upon to bowl the final delivery of the over.
Green pitched the ball around the off-stump line, and despite the brief interruption, Burl attempted a pull shot to the leg side. The ball took the edge of his bat and was sharply caught by substitute fielder Xavier Bartlett at short third man.
