[WATCH] Mitchell Santner Dismisses Sarfaraz Khan As India Sink To 95/6 In The Second Test Against New Zealand

New Zealand‘s left-arm spinner Mitchell Santner claimed his third wicket on Friday, October 25, by enticing Sarfaraz Khan into a chipped drive to mid-off, leaving India at 95/6 in the second Test in Pune.

The third wicket was Sarfaraz Khan, who fell to a misplayed lofted drive. Santner’s delivery, directed at the middle stump, resulted in Sarfaraz being caught at mid-off by William O’Rourke. This dismissal increased the pressure on the Indian batting lineup, giving New Zealand a significant advantage.

Sarfaraz, who scored 150 in the previous match, faced a series of slow, flighted, and dipping balls around his off-stump, similar to the one that led to his dismissal. He was dropped by Daryl Mitchell on his third ball but managed to defend well afterward.

However, his dismissal suggested he had lost patience. This pattern was evident throughout the batting lineup, as many specialist batters made promising starts but fell to poor shot selections rather than being outplayed by the New Zealand bowlers.

Santner’s notable fourth wicket was Ravichandran Ashwin. Delivering a low arm ball that caught Ashwin on the crease, the ball hit his front pad, leading to an LBW decision. This wicket improved Santner’s bowling figures to a personal best of 4 for 36 in Tests.

Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar became India’s last hopes following Sarfaraz’s dismissal

India lost Ravichandran Ashwin to Santner shortly after Sarfaraz’s dismissal. The hosts went to lunch with seven wickets down and only 107 runs, while New Zealand’s lead remained at 152.

Ravindra Jadeja, with 11 runs off 24 balls, and Washington Sundar, who took seven wickets in his Test comeback and scored 2 off 6, were India’s last hopes. The batting collapse could push India toward another Test defeat, risking a historic series loss at home.
