[WATCH]- Mitchell Starc’s Fiery Yorker Shatters Shubman Gill’s Middle Stump In The 2nd BGT Test

Mitchell Starc completely uprooted Shubman Gill‘s middle stump against the run of play on Saturday (December 7) in the second 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test in Adelaide. Gill, who had been batting solidly, was dismissed for 28 off 30 balls.

The dismissal came in the 18th over of India’s second innings. Starc, who had been inconsistent in his second spell, bowled a remarkable in-swinger on the second ball, which curved from outside the off-stump, slipped under Gill’s bat, and hit the stumps. Gill had no answer to it.

After taking the wicket, Starc quickly found his rhythm and consistency. His next delivery to new batter Rohit Sharma was short, forcing him into a concussion test, followed by an LBW appeal. The on-field umpire gave it out, but it was later revealed that Starc had over-stepped.

Nevertheless, the wicket of Gill was a crucial one for Australia. He had been the most composed of the Indian batters, displaying clear plans even as Yashasvi Jaiswal and Virat Kohli were dismissed at the other end.

India in a bind, dependent on Pant after Gill’s dismissal

India once again found themselves relying heavily on Rishabh Pant following Gill’s dismissal. KL Rahul, Jaiswal, and Kohli all fell cheaply for the second time in the Test, but Pant seemed almost unaffected by the pressure and noise.

He struck his first ball for four over covers against Scott Boland, who had been maintaining a stubborn line and length, and followed up with scoop shots on both sides of the wicketkeeper. For India to recover, Pant will need support from his captain, Rohit Sharma, who has now joined him at the crease.

Rohit may not be in his prime form, but this is the moment India needs him the most.
