Mohammed Siraj dismissed Steve Smith to bring India back into the game during the fourth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). The wicket reduced Australia to 80/3 in their second innings.
Siraj has been in excellent form, consistently challenging the batsmen with his pace and accuracy. After taking the wicket of Usman Khawaja, he was visibly excited and energized when he dismissed Steve Smith, the centurion from the previous innings.
On the delivery, Siraj bowled a loosener, and Smith attempted a cut shot, but his feet remained static. The ball took an edge, and Rishabh Pant made an easy catch, breaking a partnership that had threatened to shift the momentum.
Mohammed Siraj, who has faced pressure throughout the series, celebrated passionately as India fought their way back into the Test match. This marked the fourth time Siraj has dismissed Smith in 15 Test innings.

India struck quickly, taking four wickets in rapid succession to make a comeback
Rohit Sharma and his team had been struggling throughout most of the Melbourne Test. However, the second session on Day 4 saw the Indian bowlers, especially Jasprit Bumrah, take charge. After Siraj dismissed Smith, Bumrah dominated with three wickets in just two overs, putting India in control.
He first removed in-form Travis Head, who was caught by Nitish Reddy at mid-wicket. Bumrah then got Mitchell Marsh out in the same over, with the ball rising after pitching, brushing Marsh’s bat, and ending up in Pant’s gloves.
Bumrah returned in the following over to bowl a brilliant delivery that dismissed Alex Carey, leaving Australia struggling at 91/6. As of now, Australia leads by 205 runs, with Marnus Labuschagne and Pat Cummins at the crease.
