On Friday, July 19, Nepal Women’s Cricket Team made history when they beat United Arab Emirates Women during the initial match of Women’s Asia Cup T20 2024 at Rangiri Dambulla International stadium. This was their premier success in Asia Cup competition.

Nepal’s opener Samjhana Khadka was able to achieve an unbeaten score of 72 runs from 45 balls in order to chase the target of 116; during the run chase she managed to hit 11 boundaries. Khadka became the first half-centurion for Nepal Women’s team in this version when she won on her own.

This resulted in her team winning by six wickets with 23 balls in hand, banishing that remaining wave of fears for Nepalese fans everywhere while at it. You can watch the video here:

While none of the other Nepal batters were liberated to score except for Samjhana Khadka. Sixteen ran off seventeen deliveries was the bombshell for Sita Magar as an opener. Kabita Kunwar fell on two of the ten balls she faced.

In the end it was an innings that will be remembered for Khadka who blasted Nepali into history books with her superlative effort against Uganda. Just as well Kavisha Egodage was outstanding with the ball against U.A.E. wherein she registered figures of 4-3-12-0.

The United Arab Emirates Women were asked to bat first, and they did not start off too well by losing three wickets in the powerplay. In their 20 overs, Kavisha Egodage managed to retire after scoring 22 runs from 26 deliveries while Khushi Sharma also retired on 36 off 39 balls hence helping their side total 115/8.

The captain of Nepal, leading as the forefront, was Indu Barma. Her bowling spell saw a wicket taking haul of 3 from 4 overs with just 19 runs given away. For the beginning of the competition, Nepal won by Samjhana Khadka’s innings lasted all through their second innings.

Secondly, Pakistan Women won the toss and decided to bat first in the second match of Women’s Asia Cup against India Women.
