Team India‘s top-order batsman Shubman Gill answered his critics with an impressive century in the recent Test series opener against Bangladesh in Chennai. The 25-year-old faced significant backlash after scoring a duck on his eighth ball in the first innings.
Nevertheless, he made up for it in the next innings by scoring a remarkable 119 not out, carrying India to a commanding total of 515 runs. The home side eventually won the match by a staggering margin of 280 runs.
Gill has kicked off his preparations for the 2nd and last Test match of the series. He was spotted working hard in the gym preparing himself for the match. On Tuesday, September 24, the batsman posted a video, showing his fans a part of his workout, on his official Instagram account. He wrote this along with his post:
“No mistakes, only lessons.”

The conclusion of the Test series between India and Bangladesh is taking place in Kanpur where the second Test will be held. The match is pitched to start on Friday the 27th of September.
“He’s firmly establishing himself in that crucial No. 3 position” – Wasim Jaffer on Shubman Gill
Shubman Gill is an opener in limited-overs (white-ball) cricket. He however started his Test debut as an opener before he accepted to bat at No. 3 position. Former India batter Wasim Jaffer however feels that the young man has claimed that all-important role for himself.
Describing Gill’s century as a positive sign for Team India at the beginning of the Test season, Jaffer posted on X:
“Test hundred number 5 of many more to come. He’s making that important No.3 spot his own. Augurs well for India at the start of a long test season. Well played @ShubmanGill.”
Shubman Gill is playing his first test match in December 2020 against Australia in Melbourne. In 48 innings in total, the right-handed batter has an average of 37.46 and scored 1611 runs in the format. So far in his Test career, the player has registered 5 centuries and 6 half-centuries.
