Yashasvi Jaiswal, who had a verbal confrontation with Australian opener Sam Konstas in the fourth Test of the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT), was seen taunting the 19-year-old batter again on Saturday, January 4.

The incident took place during Australia’s first innings in the ongoing fifth Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground. On Day 2, during the sixth over of Australia’s innings, Jaiswal was seen ridiculing Konstas with the comment:

“Kya ho gaya, ab shots nahi dikh rahe kya? Oye Konstas, shot nahi lag rahe kya abhi?” [What happened, are you not playing any shots now? Hey Konstas, can’t you hit a shot anymore?]

The 19-year-old Australian was dismissed by Mohammed Siraj, with Jaiswal taking a stunning catch in the gully. Konstas made 23 runs off 38 balls, including three boundaries. Earlier, Konstas had a strong debut in the Boxing Day Test, scoring 60 runs off 65 balls in his first innings, though he was out for just 8 in the second.

Indian bowlers make a strong comeback on Day 2 of the 2024-25 BGT 5th Test

India won the toss and chose to bat in the fifth Test of the 2024-25 BGT, but struggled on the green-top pitch, being bowled out for 185. Rishabh Pant (40) was the top scorer for India, while Scott Boland took four wickets for Australia.

Captain Jasprit Bumrah gave India their first breakthrough on the last ball of Day 1, dismissing Usman Khawaja. On Day 2, the Indian bowlers were outstanding, removing Konstas (23), Marnus Labuschagne (2), Steven Smith (33), and Travis Head (4), leaving Australia at 96 for 5.

Meanwhile, debutant Beau Webster impressed with a maiden fifty, showcasing composure and skill. At the time of writing, Australia were 162-7 after 45 overs, with Webster (55) and Mitchell Starc (0) at the crease.
