Australian captain Pat Cummins made an early impact on Day 3 (Sunday, January 5) of the fifth Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 Test (BGT), removing India’s all-rounders Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar. The series finale is being played at the Sydney Cricket Ground, with Australia leading 2-1.
Jadeja and Sundar were the overnight batsmen, with Jadeja playing cautiously, scoring 8 off 39 balls. Sundar had just started his innings after the last session on Day 2. Early in the session, Jadeja managed a boundary and a few singles.
On the fourth delivery of the 34th over, Cummins deceived Jadeja with a leading edge. Wicketkeeper Alex Carey made no mistake, securing the catch and giving Australia their seventh wicket in a dominant bowling display. You can watch the video here:

Australia Targets 162 to Win Fifth BGT 2024-25 Test and Seal Series Victory
Australia bowled India out for 157 in 39.5 overs, setting a target of 162. Yashasvi Jaiswal (22 off 35) got off to a strong start, hitting four boundaries in the first over, but the hosts struggled as wickets fell consistently in quick succession thereafter.
A major contribution from Rishabh Pant (61 off 33) has allowed the visitors to stay afloat and post a sizeable total, showcasing his aggressive batting and ability to counterattack. Australia have made a good start to the chase, having a big over to start things off.
They have scored 26 runs in two overs, needing 136 more runs to win, with both openers looking confident and intent on reaching the target quickly.
