[WATCH]- Prabath Jayasuriya Dismisses Harry Brook With A Stunning Delivery In The ENG vs SL 2024 1st Test

On Thursday, August 22nd, 2019 in Manchester, Emirates Old Trafford, the first test match between Sri Lanka and England continued with the second day’s action when Vice-Captain Harry Brook was caught out by Prabath Jayasuriya.

The dismissal took place on the initial delivery of the 40th over. Prabath Jayasuriya was in his second spell bowling to well-settled Harry Brook. He pitched the ball outside off stump that turned back and hit onto the off stump getting rid of English Vice-Captain.

Brook, who is just 25 years old, started off really well with a bat in his hand; it was his 9th half-century in Tests. He went back to the hut after scoring 56 runs from 73 balls which left England at 187/5.

After asking to bowl first, the hosts did a huge job in the bowling department by restricting Sri Lanka to 268 runs. They could have tied the Sri Lankan first innings earlier having them struggling on 6/3; however, important half-centuries from their captain Dhananjaya de Silva (74) and debutant Milan Rathnayake (72) made sure the islands had scored a decent total.

On day one, England got off to an impressive start with the new opening pair collecting 22 within four overs before poor light interrupted play. The pair formed an opening partnership of 30 runs before Duckett was gone for good while his stand-in teammate Ollie Pope was out cheaply leaving them at 40/2.

Important contributions came from Joe Root (42), Dan Lawrence (30) and Harry Brook’s half-century (56) which kept them still holding on. For Sri Lankans, Asitha Fernando picked up three wickets with Prabath Jayasuriya and Vishwa Fernando claiming one each.
