India pacer Prasidh Krishna claimed his first wicket of the series by removing a well-set Steve Smith for 33 on Day 2 (January 4) of the fifth Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
Prasidh, who has struggled with injuries throughout his career, replaced Akash Deep in the playing XI for the final match of the series. The tall pacer had an inconsistent start, struggling with his line and length. However, he made a key breakthrough by dismissing the in-form Smith.
After Australia was reduced to 39/4, Smith and debutant Beau Webster started building a partnership, both looking settled as the pitch eased. India knew they had to dismiss Smith, who had scored consecutive centuries in the previous two Tests.
Smith, along with debutant Beau Webster, was stabilizing Australia’s innings after they slipped to 39/4. The pair looked settled, taking advantage of an easing pitch, before Prasidh broke the partnership just as it began to build momentum.
Prasidh Krishna stepped up for the visiting side, claiming the key wicket of Steve Smith. Despite Smith having hit him for a six and a four a few overs earlier, Prasidh delivered a simple ball just outside off stump. Smith, playing away from his body, could only edge it to KL Rahul, who took a comfortable catch.
This dismissal ended a 57-run partnership between Smith and Webster and gave India the upper hand as they headed into Lunch on Day 2. You can watch the video here:
