India defeated Pakistan, their bitter rivals, by six runs in a low-scoring thriller during their ICC Men’s T20 World Cup match on Sunday in New York. India’s fielding and bowling were different, as wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant’s antics behind the stumps earned him the ‘Best Fielder’ award from a very special guest, despite the batting’s struggles.
Another day saw India’s fielders rise to the extreme pressure of a highly anticipated match between Pakistan and India. The left-hander made three outstanding catches, one of which dismissed Fakhar Zaman off the bowling of Hardik Pandya. He also caught Imad Wasim and Shadab Khan. His athleticism and dedication were noted by the support staff.
Fielding coach T. Dilip complimented the team’s coordination and intense fielding in the locker room following the victory. The Best Fielder Award is still given out in the team’s ongoing ICC competition, which was inaugurated at the 2023 ODI World Cup. To present Pant with his “Best Fielder” trophy for his outstanding fielding during the India vs. Pakistan match, Dilip summoned former India head coach Ravi Shastri.
โToday was a great example of โwhen the going gets tough, the tough get goingโ. One thing that stood out today was the sheer commitment towards excellence in fielding. In high-pressure situations, being proactive is extremely important. Today, we backed each other up, looked after each other, and worked as one unit. Outstanding effort, well done. This level of coordination makes us effective and sets us apart from any other team,โ Dilip said in a video posted by BCCI.

Former India coach Ravi Shastri was quite impressed by Pant’s wicketkeeping and range of movement after undergoing significant surgery to address the injuries he sustained in the vehicle accident. Shastri stated that Pant’s determination to return swiftly is an encouragement to millions around the world.
“All I say for Rishabh. Brilliant performance. I had tears in my eyes when I heard about his accident. When I saw him in the hospital, it was worse. And then for him to come back from there and be back in the A-zone playing one of the biggest games, India vs Pakistan, is heartwarming,” said Shastri.
“Batting, everybody knew. What you’re capable of, is the X-factor you have. But your wicketkeeping and range of movement, which you quickly got back into after the operation, is a tribute to how much you worked hard. Not just for yourself, it’s an inspiration to millions around the globe. From adversity, from the jaws of death, you can snatch a win as well. So well done, keep up the good work,” Ravi Shastri added.
