India started the tour with a dominant 295-run win in the first Test in Perth. However, their momentum shifted as they faced a 10-wicket defeat in the second Test. The third Test in Brisbane, which was heavily disrupted by rain, ended in a draw.
India struggled to maintain their composure, losing the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne on the final day with only 12 overs left. Meanwhile, Australia continued their strong form, clinching a six-wicket victory in the final Test at Sydney.
With this victory, Australia secured their place in the World Test Championship (WTC) final, alongside South Africa. This is the first instance where India has failed to qualify for the final.
Rishabh Pant’s performance in the 2024-25 BGT has not been his best
The 27-year-old explosive batter displayed flashes of his potential throughout the series but struggled to convert his starts into substantial scores, with the exception of his final innings in the fifth Test. In India’s second innings of the Sydney Test, Pant went on an aggressive attack, scoring a rapid 50 off 29 balls.
He finished with 61 runs off 33 balls, including six fours and four sixes. Overall, he accumulated 255 runs in nine innings, averaging 28.33, with one half-century. Rishabh Pant has now played 43 Tests for India, amassing 2,948 runs at an average of 42.11, with 15 fifties and six centuries.
Next, the Men in Blue are set to host England for a series featuring five T20Is and three ODIs, ahead of the prestigious ICC Champions Trophy. It will be intriguing to see if Pant is included in the squad for these upcoming fixtures.
