Punjab Kings bowler Rishi Dhawan pulled off a brilliant effort in the field to run out Shubman Gill during the match against Gujarat Titans on Tuesday. The Mayank Agarwal-led team has got off to a brilliant start at the DY Patil Stadium.
Wicket-keeper batter Wriddhiman Saha and Shubman Gill opened the innings for the Gujarat Titans. The openers looked in good nick, slamming four boundaries in the first two overs. Shubman Gill hit Kagiso Rabada for consecutive boundaries. However, an outstanding effort from Rishi Dhawan in the outfield sent him packing.
On the first ball of the second over, Shubman Gill hit the ball towards the cover and set off for a run. However, the bowler Sandeep Sharma got in his way, and Shubman fell short of the crease. Dhawan, who was at the covers, hit the target directly, to dismiss the right-handed batter for just nine runs.

After the fall of Shubman Gill’s wicket, Wriddhiman Saha continued his keep up the batting tempo. He slammed Kagiso Rabada for a six in the fourth over. However, Rabada had the last laugh, as he dismissed the wicket-keeper batter the very next ball. Saha miscued a shot, and the skipper Mayank Agarwal made no mistake to take a back-peddling catch.
Quite close to bowling: Hardik Pandya
Gujarat Titans skipper Hardik Pandya has been enjoying the leadership duties with the franchise this season. The team has earned success under his captaincy winning, eight out of their nine matches in IPL 2022 so far. However, the fans are awaiting the all-rounder’s return to bowling.
During the toss, Hardik Pandya revealed that he is quite close to starting bowling, but does not want to hurry with it. He said, “I’m quite close to bowling now, but given our standing in the table, don’t want to rush myself. Have the luxury of taking a couple of games off.”
The Gujarat Titans won the toss and opted to bat first. Both the teams have been unchanged since their last match. The Punjab Kings put on 42 runs in the powerplay with two wickets down. Hardik Pandya is at the crease with Sai Sudarshan.
