Friends and family members welcomed Indian and ‘captain’ Rohit Sharma back to his hometown after India secured the T20 World Cup earlier this week. Rohit led India home to a second T20 World Cup win last week, beating South Africa in the final in Barbados.
When the Indian team reached Mumbai, there was a lot of jubilation and hailing of the team from large crowds who came to watch the open bus victory parade. The BCCI also felicitated the team at Wankhede Stadium, wherein the board presented a cheque of rupees one hundred and twenty-five crore for the prize money to the team.
In their post-victory celebration with the supporters, the players and support personnel headed back home late on Thursday. A surprise that his friends and family had prepared for him was unknown to India captain Rohit when he arrived home on Thursday.
The Indian captain was saluted by Tilak Varma, an Indian batter, who was there on the scene with Rohit’s friends. They accosted Rohit as well, hugging and hoisting the star hitter onto their shoulders in a now-viral video.

Purnima, the mother of India captain Rohit Sharma, broke down in tears at witnessing her son lead the team to a historic T20 World Cup victory on Thursday, July 4. Notably, after spending three days delayed in Barbados, Team India eventually left the island nation and arrived in Delhi.
When the Indian skipper arrived in Mumbai, he also saw his parents, Gurunath and Purnima Sharma. His mother became upset at seeing him. Purnima gave Rohit several kisses and hugs in a sweet scene that was recorded by the media. The Indian skipper asked the media to give him some space so he could speak privately with his parents.
Notably, as the tournament’s second-highest run-scorer, Rohit Sharma was essential to India’s triumphant campaign. With three fifties to his credit with an average of 36.71 and a strike rate of 156.70 across eight innings, the leadoff batter offered the squad explosive starts.
