Rohit Sharma’s mother was captured on camera embracing the Indian captain with hugs and kisses in a touching moment following the Men in Blue’s victory at the 2024 T20 World Cup. Rohit became only the second Indian captain to win a T20 World Cup, leading the team to victory over South Africa in the final on June 29 by seven runs.

Team India arrived in India early on July 4 from Barbados and received a warm welcome in New Delhi, where they met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Later in the day, they took part in a celebratory open bus parade, attended by enthusiastic fans in large numbers.

After this, Team India engaged in a congratulations ceremony at Wankhede Stadium, in which they were offered INR 125 crore for their victory  in the 2024 T20 World Cup. The Indian team additionally enthralled the crowd with a lap of tribute in the event.

Rohit Sharma declared his retirement from T20 cricket after winning the T20 World Cup. In a press conference following the match, Rohit stated:

“This was my last game (T20I) as well. No better time to say goodbye to this format. I’ve loved every moment of this. I started my India career playing this format. This is what I wanted, I wanted to win the cup.”

The Indian captain concluded his T20I career as the top scorer in the format.

At the appreciation ceremony, Rohit Sharma conveyed  thankfulness to Indian enthusiasts for their ultimate support, noting that they’d awaited eleven years for this celebration, which his team had subsequently brought.

“Obviously Mumbai never disappoints when it comes to winning the trophy. I would like to thank all the fans. For the last 11 years, they have wanted this trophy to come here and we have finally brought it here and I am relieved.”

Rohit also praised Hardik Pandya for his calmness during the final over, which was instrumental in India securing the trophy in Barbados.
