[WATCH]- Sai Sudharsan Falls Cheaply After Misjudging Length, Trapped Lbw On Day 1 Of IND vs WI 1st Test

India’s young batter Sai Sudharsan had a forgettable start to the series, falling cheaply to West Indies captain Roston Chase on Day 1 (Thursday, October 2) of the opening Test at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

His dismissal occurred on the fifth delivery of the 25th over. Chase delivered a good-length ball on middle stump, which Sudharsan misread while moving onto the back foot for a pull. The ball thudded into his back leg in line with the stumps, and the umpire had little hesitation in declaring him out lbw, cutting short his stay at the crease.

The left-hander scored just seven from 19 deliveries before his departure, which left India on 90 for 2 after 24.5 overs.

Bowlers Shine To Dismiss WI For 162, India Face Early Setback

Choosing to bat first, West Indies put up a below-par performance, folding for 162 in 44.1 overs. Justin Greaves was their top contributor with 32, while India’s bowlers dominated—Mohammed Siraj leading the way with four wickets, Jasprit Bumrah taking three, Kuldeep Yadav picking up two, and Washington Sundar adding one to the tally.

In reply, India made a steady start, reaching 23 without loss after 12.4 overs before rain interrupted play. KL Rahul was on 18 from 40 deliveries and Yashasvi Jaiswal on four from 36 at the time. Following the resumption, Jaiswal batted with more fluency, racing to 36 off 52 balls, but fell soon after for 36 off 54, having struck seven boundaries, with Jayden Seales claiming his wicket.

At No. 3, Sai Sudharsan failed to settle, managing only seven runs before being trapped by Roston Chase. Meanwhile, Rahul remained solid, completing his half-century off 101 balls. By the end of 35 overs, India had reached 117/2, with Rahul unbeaten on 51 and Shubman Gill supporting him on 16.
