[WATCH] Sanju Samson’s Struggle Continues Against Bangladesh

Sanju Samson’s batting struggles continued in the second India vs Bangladesh T20I, further diminishing his chances to secure a spot in the Indian cricket team. The match took place at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, and despite being given multiple opportunities, Samson failed to deliver with the bat.

Since Gautam Gambhir’s appointment as India’s head coach, Samson has been favored as a wicketkeeper-batsman in T20Is. However, the Kerala cricketer has yet to capitalize on these chances.

After a poor series against Sri Lanka earlier this year, where he failed to score in both matches, Samson was retained in the squad for the ongoing Bangladesh series, but his struggles persisted. Despite Jitesh Sharma being available as a wicketkeeper, the team management continued to back Samson, only for him to disappoint again in both games.

Gautam Gambhir’s Visible Disappointment

In the second T20I, Samson opened the batting for India and briefly showed promise by hitting two boundaries off Mehidy Hasan Miraz in the first over. However, his innings was cut short when he mistimed a shot off Taskin Ahmed’s bowling, resulting in a catch at mid-off by Najmul Hossain Shanto.

Samson’s dismissal for just 10 runs highlighted his inability to seize opportunities at the top of the order. Gautam Gambhir, the head coach, was visibly frustrated by this latest failure.

His facial expression made it evident that he was displeased with Samson’s continued inability to perform under pressure. Gambhir’s reaction captured the sentiments of many fans and experts who have grown increasingly critical of Samson’s performances.

India Recovers Despite Poor Start

Despite Samson’s early exit, India managed to recover from a shaky start. At one point, the team was struggling at 41/3 inside the powerplay. However, contributions from Nitish Reddy and Rinku Singh turned things around.

Reddy scored a remarkable 74 runs, while Singh added a crucial 53, helping India post a challenging total of 221/9. Their resilience ensured that India remained competitive despite the early setbacks. Samson’s failure, however, remains a talking point, with questions looming over his future in the Indian team.

Fans and selectors alike are beginning to wonder if his time in the squad may be running out, given his inconsistent performances on the big stage.
