Team India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal was dismissed by Australia’s Scott Boland for 10 runs in the first innings of the fifth Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 Test. The Sydney Cricket Ground is hosting the New Year’s Test as usual, with Australia leading the five-match Test series 2-1.

With Rohit Sharma missing the Test, India’s opening pair from the first three matches – KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal – returned. Jaiswal faced the first ball of the Test and got off the mark with a boundary off a flick shot, looking in good form.

However, during the fourth ball of the eighth over, Jaiswal drove at a delivery from Scott Boland outside the off stump. The ball took the leading edge and flew to Beau Webster in the slip cordon, who held onto the catch, recording his first Test dismissal.

Jaiswal’s stay in the first innings was brief, as he was dismissed for 10 runs off 26 balls. He became the second wicket to fall after KL Rahul (4 off 14), both falling to tight Australian bowling. With the pressure mounting on the Indian top order, Virat Kohli came to the crease next, hoping to stabilize the innings.

Tough start for India in the BGT 2024-25 5th Test without Rohit Sharma

Jasprit Bumrah captained Team India for the fifth Test, with Rohit Sharma opting to rest. The visitors had a tough start in the New Year’s Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground, losing openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul within the first 10 overs.

At present, Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill are batting, with the score at 33/2 after 14 overs. India are trailing 1-2 in the five-match Test series and require a win to retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, making this match crucial for their hopes.
