Indian batter Shreyas Iyer strolled out to bat with sunglasses on, adding a touch of style despite the intense heat in Anantapur on Day 2 of the India D vs. India A 2024 Duleep Trophy match. Unfortunately, his innings was brief as he was dismissed for a duck after seven balls, extending his struggles with the red ball.
After limiting the India A team led by Mayank Agarwal to 290 in their first innings, India D captain Shreyas Iyer came out to bat at number 3 in the first over itself. The right handed batsman had a job of setting a stable platform after Atharva Taide was dismissed by Khaleel Ahmed.
Iyer had fended off the left arm fast bowler and survived first over and when he came back on strike in third over he was faced with similar proposition.
Khaleel Ahmed had maintained a tight line with six consecutive dot balls against Iyer, creating pressure. Desperate to score, Iyer attempted an aggressive shot off a fuller delivery but couldn’t keep it under control and was caught at mid-on by Aaqib Khan.

India D was left at 6-2 after the dismissal and as of now, they have gone down to 56-4 in the first session of the day. Devdutt Padikkal and Ricky Bhui are the two holding up the crease after Sanju Samson departs for only five runs.
Shreyas Iyer was excluded from the squad for the Test series against Bangladesh
The selectors have shifted attention from him as they look at other possibilities for their middle order due to Shreyas Iyer’s disastrous returns in the Duleep Trophy and his inconsistent recent red-ball record. On account of performances such as Sarfaraz Khan’s good beginning, he has been further demoted by Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul’s return.
In the second innings against India C, the skipper of India D made a brisk fifty runs while in the first innings he only managed to earn nine runs. He also had an unsuccessful voyage to Sri Lanka which saw him score just 38 runs over three games on a series loss of 0-2.
