[WATCH]- Shreyas Iyer Uses Sunil Narine’s Bowling Action In The Buchi Babu Tournament Match

Shreyas Iyer, the Mumbai batter, used strategies of his franchise mate Sunil Narine in an ongoing match against TNCA XI during the Buchi Babu Tournament. Following the trend of batters rolling their arms over at all time possibility, Iyer came on to bowl the final over of Day 1 but opted for the Caribbean mystery spinner’s style rather than his routine action.

TNCA XI was comfortably sitting on 287-5 in 89 overs needing just one more over to end their inning. Iyer bowled with an unorthodox action from around the wicket while left-handed Boopathi Kumar was present at the other end. Later when Sonu Yadav came to face him, he started bowling from over the wicket.

This new technique did not work out so well for Iyer who seemed hesitant. He had problems with lines and lengths since they were unfamiliar; consequently he paid dearly later on when he delivered a short ball that made it possible for Sonu Yadav who rocked onto his backfoot hitting it each time down into midwicket making it a massive six which ended up taking this day’s play scores from 294-5.

Ever since Shreyas Iyer switched to KKR after mega auction of IPL 2022, he has been sharing the dressing room with Sunil Narine. They are the ones who led the team to victory in 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) where Narine played under Iyer. Buchi Babu tournament has seen wicketkeeper batsman, Ishan Kishan, use his arm for some off-spin as well.

Shreyas Iyer will also participate in the Duleep Trophy before the start of the home season

The Buchi Babu tournament is the first step for Shreyas Iyer towards stepping back into the central contract list. The batter had played for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy knockouts but had already started his camp with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) despite claiming injury concerns.

After Buchi Babu Tournament he is expected to lead Team D in a Duleep Trophy that will take place in 2024. In addition he will be a contender for the squad during the home season that follows which begins with a Test series against Bangladesh.
