[WATCH]- Shubman Gill Is Dismissed Caught Behind Following A Successful Review By The Proteas In The First Test Between IND vs SA

Shubman Gill struggled with the bat in the first Test against South Africa at SuperSport Park in Centurion, departing early with only two runs off 12 deliveries. He was caught behind by wicketkeeper Kyle Verreynne as debutant Nandre Burger secured consecutive wickets for the Proteas.

Shubman Gill’s dismissal occurred following a fruitful review by South Africa. Burger delivered a back-of-length ball that moved down the leg side, inducing a faint edge on the gloves. The confident wicketkeeper, Kyle Verreynne, urged his captain Temba Bavuma to challenge the initial not-out decision, resulting in a favorable outcome for the hosts.

Batting at No. 3, Gill registered scores of 6, 10, and an unbeaten 29 in his three innings on the West Indies tour earlier this year. The Punjab-born batsman has faced challenges in stepping into the role vacated by Cheteshwar Pujara in Test matches.

Additionally, he recorded scores of 13 and 18 in the 2023 World Test Championship (WTC) final, where India suffered a 209-run defeat to Australia.

Shubman Gill’s early dismissal puts India in a challenging position at 24-3 against South Africa in the 1st Test

India faced adversity at 24-3 after Shubman Gill fell early, with South Africa asserting dominance in the initial phase of the 1st Test. Captain Rohit Sharma departed first, caught by fine leg off Kagiso Rabada, followed by debutant Nandre Burger dismissing Yashasvi Jaiswal, caught behind by Kyle Verreynne.

As of now, India stands at 38/3 after 13 overs, with Shreyas Iyer and Virat Kohli at the crease. The pair aims to spearhead India’s comeback in the first Test.

The turn of events occurred after South Africa captain Temba Bavuma won the toss and opted to field. During the toss, he mentioned:

“We’ll bowl first. The wicket has been under covers. We want to use the moisture and make early inroads. Our boys have all got into reasonably fit conditions.”
