Watch: Shubman Gill’s Impressive Form Shines In Practice At PCA Stadium

Shubman Gill is preparing intensively for India’s upcoming domestic and home Test seasons, leaving no stone unturned in his efforts. The 24-year-old was recently seen practising at the IS Bindra PCA Stadium in Mohali, confidently batting in his Test jersey and delivering some impressive lofted shots. Gill, who has been entrusted with significant responsibility as India’s vice-captain in both ODI and T20I formats, will also lead Team A in the Duleep Trophy tournament, starting on September 5 in Bengaluru. The team includes notable players like KL Rahul, Riyan Parag, Mayank Agarwal, Tilak Varma, and Shivam Dube.

Training on his home ground in Punjab, Gill is determined to be in top form for India’s upcoming home season. The Indian team has been on an extended break following their white-ball series against Sri Lanka, where Suryakumar Yadav-led India swept the T20I series, while the Rohit Sharma-led ODI side suffered a 0-2 defeat. As vice-captain, Gill demonstrated an aggressive approach in T20Is but struggled to make a significant impact in ODIs.

After the series, Indian players returned to their respective homes to continue training. Some, like Suryakumar Yadav and Shreyas Iyer, participated in the Buchi Babu tournament for Mumbai. However, Suryakumar, who was eyeing a comeback to the Test side, sustained a hand injury, casting doubt on his participation in the Duleep Trophy.

Extended Break and Recent Series Outcomes

Gill’s previous Test season was relatively quiet, except for a century in Ahmedabad against Australia. With concerns over his form at the crucial No. 3 spot, previously held by Cheteshwar Pujara, Gill made a strong comeback during the five-match Test series against England earlier this year. In his 25 Test matches to date, he has scored 1,492 runs at an average of 35.52, including four centuries and six half-centuries.

As India gears up for the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh and New Zealand, followed by the highly anticipated Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia, Gill aims to maintain his momentum and solidify his place in the team.
