The Sports Minister, Anurag Thakur, fondly recalled his days as a cricketer in a recent social media post. He shared a video showcasing his cricket skills, including hitting a six, at a sports facility during the ongoing Asian Games 2023.
On Sunday, September 23, the 48-year-old former cricketer, now a politician, provided a caption for the post on the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter):
“You can take out cricket from a player’s life, but you can’t take out the cricketer in him.”

For those not familiar with his background, Anurag Thakur once took part in a Ranji Trophy match against Jammu & Kashmir in November 2000 while leading Himachal Pradesh. He included himself in the squad to meet the BCCI’s criteria for becoming a state-level selector. Interestingly, this debut marked both his first and only appearance in a first-class match.
Thakur also held the position of president at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA). During his leadership, the international stadium in Dharamsala was established. Additionally, he served as the president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) from May 2015 to February 2017.
“We will not resume our cricketing ties with Pakistan” – Anurag Thakur
Anurag Thakur recently affirmed that India has no plans to resume their cricketing relations with Pakistan. He conveyed this message to journalists during his interactions in Udaipur, Rajasthan:
“The BCCI decided long ago that it will not play any bilateral matches with Pakistan until they stop terrorism. We will not resume our cricketing ties with Pakistan unless they stop carrying out attacks across the border or infiltration incidents. This is in line with sentiments of Indian citizens.”
For those who might not be aware, India and Pakistan exclusively compete in ICC events, with their most recent bilateral series dating back to 2012.
Due to persisting tensions, India chose to participate in the Asia Cup 2023 held in Sri Lanka, while other participating teams competed in Pakistan. Nevertheless, Pakistan eventually decided to take part in the 2023 ODI World Cup in India, despite prior threats to withdraw from this major ICC event.
Their World Cup encounter is scheduled for October 14 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
