[WATCH] Star New Zealand Batter Returns To The Net

The New Zealand Cricket Team could be given a major boost as their skipper Kane Williamson returned to nets. He injured himself while stopping six during the opening match of the Indian Premier League season 2023 against Chennai Super Kings at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.

After the injury, he went through surgery in early April raising doubts about his presence with the New Zealand team for the 50-over World Cup 2023 to be played in India. Williamson posted on Instagram a clip of him batting in the nets with the caption: “Nice to be back in the nets with the bat in hand for a few throws.”

New Zealand will miss the service of Michael Bracewell due to an injury. The runners-up of the 2019 World Cup would begin the tournament with a rematch against winners England in the opening match to be played at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on 5th October.

Back in nets, Kane Williamson racing against time for World Cup

Kiwi coach Gary Stead is hopeful that Kane Williamson could be fit for the prestigious ICC World Cup 2023 to be played in October- November. “Our line around Kane, at the moment, is still it’s unlikely that he will be available, but we certainly don’t want to rule out a person of his class and calibre, and the things he brings to this team, too early in case there is that chance still,” Stead said in April.

Kane Williamson plays a key role as a batter and captain

Kane Williamson played a key role for New Zealand during the 2019 edition of the World Cup played in England and Wales. He finished as the leading runs scorer for Kiwi and overall 4th in the chart. During the tournament, Williamson scored 578 runs from 10 matches (9 innings) including 2 half-centuries and 2 centuries to his name. He was named the player of the tournament for his consistent performance.

Coming at number 3, Williamson scored important runs and helped New Zealand win matches with intelligent batting. He made 578 runs at an average of 82.57 and with the best score of 148 against the West Indies.

Williamson could play a key role for New Zealand in the upcoming World Cup 2023. Under the captaincy of Williamson, Kiwis finished fourth and defeated favourites India in the two-day semi-finals.

New Zealand lost the finals in an epic by-boundary count against hosts England played at Lords, London. They would be looking to see Williamson back on the field and lead New Zealand in the 2023 World.
