Neeraj Chopra won India’s first gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics as he registered the best throw in the track and field category in javelin throw. He covered a distance of 87.58 meters on his throw and registered the longest distance among all the athletes who contested in the event. He defeated Czech Republic’s Jakub Vadlejch and Vítězslav Veselý to resgister the best throw.

Meanwhile, former Indian skipper Sunil Gavaskar was all smiles on the Sony Sports dressing room. He sang the patriotic song ” Mere Desh Ki Dharti” along with other members of the channel.

Meanwhile, Chopra winning the gold medal was after Bajrang Punia bagged a bronze medal in the Olympics. India’s tally count has now extended up to seventh with the first gold medal also in the bag. The country’s national anthem was also played at the time when Chopra went upto the podium to receive his medal. It provoked patriotic feelings from the Indian fans on Twitter who were quick to admit the importance of this moment.
