India national cricket team captain Suryakumar Yadav was seen in a playful mood as he cheekily checked opener Abhishek Sharma’s pockets during a training session in Ahmedabad ahead of the Super 8 stage of the T20 World Cup 2026. The skipper appeared to be jokingly searching for a hidden note in the youngster’s pocket.
Earlier, Abhishek had pulled out a slip reading, “This one is for the Orange Army,” after smashing his maiden century in the 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League. Suryakumar seemingly poked fun at the 25-year-old by pretending to look for a similar message during practice.

Abhishek Sharma’s form with the bat has raised concerns after he registered three consecutive ducks in the T20 World Cup 2026. The left-hander is yet to open his account in the tournament, having been dismissed for zero against the United States national cricket team, Pakistan national cricket team, and Netherlands national cricket team.
He also sat out the group-stage game versus Namibia national cricket team due to a stomach infection. Meanwhile, the Suryakumar Yadav-led India national cricket team remain unbeaten in the competition. They begin their Super 8 campaign against South Africa national cricket team at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, February 22.
“Play A Few Balls First” – Indian Legend Advises Abhishek Sharma Amid T20 WC 2026 Struggles
Abhishek Sharma was seen as a crucial part of India’s batting setup for the T20 World Cup 2026, but he has struggled to make an impact. Former India opener Virender Sehwag advised the youngster to settle in at the crease before going after big shots.
Sehwag felt that flawed shot selection has contributed to Abhishek’s dip in form. Referring to his own playing days, he mentioned that a turnaround is always possible after a lean run. Speaking on Cricbuzz, the former cricketer-turned-expert expressed his thoughts:
“It was a ball to be hit but he missed it. I have been in his shoes, making 2-3 zeroes, but making a comeback is not that difficult because it is just about the mindset. It is about shot selection, which is where he is making a mistake. The expectations from him are to score right away, and he may make a mistake. But he should play some balls while he is not scoring runs, try to play some balls.”
