At an event on Thursday, October 3, the Mumbai crowd urged India captain Rohit Sharma to lead the team in the ODI World Cup 2027. Rohit has been at the helm since 2022 and recently guided India to victory in the T20 World Cup 2024 in the West Indies and the USA, ending an 11-year ICC trophy drought since their last major title in 2013.
During a recent event in Rashin, Maharashtra, Rohit received an enthusiastic welcome, with the crowd loudly chanting his name. The host of the event even asked the audience to make a decision on their favorite captain for the next World Cup, and they did very enthusiastically cheer for Rohit.
“I will surely come, and on the behalf of entire country, I request Rohit that we need one more WC and whom do we want to see lead India in that WC? (asks the public). Public says Rohit Rohit. Now the public wishes to see you leading India in one more World Cup. That’s all I would like to request. Thanks,” the person said in the video.

Under his leadership, India reached the final of the ODI World Cup 2023 but fell short, losing to Australia by six wickets. Following the defeat, Rohit was visibly emotional, struggling to hold back tears as he left the field.
The Indian captain has openly stated his ambition to win the ODI World Cup, and it remains to be seen if he will continue playing in this format until the next tournament in 2027.
