[WATCH]- Three Bangladesh Players Missed An Opportunity To Grab An Easy Catch

During Day 2 of the second Test match between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, a series of mishaps unfolded when three fielders failed to seize an opportunity to dismiss Prabath Jayasuriya.

Despite the ball flying off the outside edge of his bat, the slip fielders, including Skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto at 1st slip, Shahadat Hossain Dipu at 2nd slip, and Zakir Hasan at 3rd slip, couldn’t manage to secure the catch, granting the batter a stroke of luck.

Sri Lanka, meanwhile, achieved a milestone by scoring 531 runs in their first innings against Bangladesh on Sunday, although Kamindu Mendis narrowly missed out on securing a third Test century in consecutive innings.

On the second day of the second Test in Chittagong, Sri Lanka achieved the highest total in Tests without any batsman reaching a century.

Kamindu Mendis was unbeaten at 92 when the last man, Asitha Fernando, was run out for a duck, falling just eight runs short of becoming the fourth Sri Lankan to score three centuries in consecutive innings.

Mendis, who had previously scored 102 and 164 in the first Test, showcased his prowess by hitting Taijul Islam for two sixes in an over, edging closer to achieving the remarkable feat. However, Fernando failed to reach his crease in a desperate bid to rotate the strike.

Aside from Mendis, who was in his third Test match, Dhananjaya de Silva (70), Dinesh Chandimal (59), Kusal Mendis (93), Dimuth Karunaratne (86), and Nishan Madhushka (57) each reached a half-century mark.

Shakib Al Hasan concluded with figures of 3-110 as Sri Lanka made Bangladesh work hard for nearly two days after choosing to bat first. Sri Lanka began the second day with a score of 314-4.

De Silva, similar to Mendis, who also achieved scores of 102 and 108 in the initial Test, hinted at the possibility of securing a hat-trick of centuries before being dismissed in the post-lunch session.

Chandimal was the solitary batsman to depart in the first session, nicking Shakib’s delivery behind the stumps before reaching. Khaled Ahmed dismissed De Silva lbw in the opening over following the lunch interval.

Khaled had the opportunity to claim another wicket in the subsequent over if Prabath Jayasuriya had not been hilariously dropped by three slip fielders when he was on six. Mendis appeared to be caught behind on 35 against Mehidy Hasan Miraz, but the decision was overturned upon review.

Shakib dismissed Jayasuriya’s leg before wicket to break his 65-run partnership with Mendis, who had been dropped by Hasan Mahmud on 60 at deep square leg.

Sri Lanka emerged victory in the initial Test match in Sylhet by a margin of 328 runs.
