Tilak Varma delivered a memorable performance in Dharamsala, guiding his team to victory almost single-handedly in a challenging run chase. The left-hander remained unbeaten on 75 off just 33 deliveries to seal the win for his side.

However, it was his celebration after hitting the winning runs that grabbed everyone’s attention. Tilak leapt in joy before flashing the numbers 4 and 5 with his fingers, a gesture linked to Rohit Sharma’s jersey number.

The celebration appeared to be a tribute to Rohit, and the video of the moment has since gone viral across social media. Watch the video here:

Tilak Varma was also named Player of the Match for his outstanding innings.

“I always say that I love finishing games, but playing in the World Cup and playing quite a few international games for the country helps me (understand) how to finish games, and you get that experience and confidence. So with that, I think I keep improving my game,” Varma said at the post-match presentation. 

“To be honest, when we had the second strategy timeout, I was talking to the coach that just one big over and we will finish off the game. Just keep believing in me, I’ll do it for the team. So that’s what I said, and I was just waiting for that one big over. Unfortunately, it came off Yuzi bhai’s (last) over (smiles),” he added. 

Mumbai Indians Struggle In IPL 2026 Despite Some Strong Performances

Mumbai Indians have endured a difficult IPL 2026 campaign and are already out of the playoff race. The five-time champions struggled to maintain consistency throughout the season, with both their batting and bowling units failing to click together regularly.

Despite showing glimpses of brilliance in a few matches, MI were unable to build momentum and suffered several close defeats that hurt their chances badly. A major positive for the side has been the performances of young players like Tilak Varma, who has played a few impactful knocks under pressure.

Senior stars such as Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah also contributed in patches, but the team lacked consistency overall. Injuries, middle-order collapses, and failure to finish games cost them valuable points during the tournament.

Although the season has been disappointing, MI will aim to finish strongly and use the remaining matches to prepare for a better comeback next year.
