Sussex batter Tom Alsop impressed spectators with a spectacular catch during the team’s ongoing County Championship Division Two game against Derbyshire at County Ground in Hove.

During the 43rd over of Derbyshire’s opening innings, off-spinner Jack Carson had properly set Anuj Dal out for a score of 45 runs. The ball had high-bounced on him causing him to edge it towards short leg. Alsop’s response was impressive as he managed to catch it with one hand. Here’s a video of the wicket:

Day two came to an end with Derbyshire scoring 178 runs for six wickets. They are still trailing Sussex by 429 runs. Wayne Madsen stayed not out at 75 while Anuj Dal was the next best performer scoring only 45 runs. Jaydev Unadkat from India took three wickets on his second day, while Jack Carson managed only two scalps.

Tom Alsop scores an impressive half-century in the current match against Derbyshire

Derbyshire won the toss and decided to field first. However, the decision did not pay off as Sussex put up a big score of 607 runs for 8 wickets before declaring their innings.

Daniel Hughes started off the innings on a high note for Sussex, scoring an impressive 144 runs in just 142 balls. Captain John Simpson also put up good numbers that saw him collect 121 runs from 167 balls hitting a half-century to lead his side throughout the match.

In contrast, Jack Carson came agonizingly close to scoring a ton but fell short with 97 runs. Meanwhile, Tom Alsop made his mark too with 70 runs from 149 deliveries. Alsop has been in good form this season for Sussex where he is second highest run-getter having scored 689 runs in 17 innings at an average of 45.93.

Currently, Sussex leads at table-toppers County Championship Divison Two having won five matches out of ten played thus far giving them total points of 158 which includes three draws and two losses while Derbyshire lies at the bottom based on current standings with only 103 points scored so far with one victory out of nine played including six defeats and three draws overall.
