Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) star batter Virat Kohli was spotted at Bengaluru airport on Wednesday, March 19, as the team departed for Kolkata for their opening match against defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season kicks off at Eden Gardens on Saturday, March 22, with a thrilling opener between KKR and RCB. Several videos surfaced on social media, capturing Kohli and other RCB players at the airport ahead of the much-anticipated clash.

Notably, reports had suggested Virat Kohli might return as RCB captain for IPL 2025, but Rajat Patidar was ultimately chosen to succeed Faf du Plessis. RCB secured fourth place in the points table last season, earning a playoff spot with a crucial 27-run victory over CSK in a must-win game.

However, their campaign ended in disappointment with a four-wicket loss to Rajasthan Royals in the Eliminator.

Thousands of fans gathered at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Monday, March 17, for the RCB Unbox event. During the occasion, Virat Kohli spoke highly of the team’s new captain, Rajat Patidar.  He encouraged RCB supporters to show their love for Patidar, emphasizing that the 31-year-old is the perfect choice for the vital leadership role. Kohli said:

“The guy who is going to come next, is the guy who is going to lead you for a long time. Give him all the love you can.”

”He is an amazing talent, a great player we have all seen that but he’s got a great head on his shoulders. He’ll do a great job for this amazing franchise and take the team forward. He’s got everything that is required.”

Virat Kohli displayed exceptional form with the bat in IPL 2024, claiming the prestigious Orange Cap. He amassed 741 runs in 15 innings at an impressive average of 61.75.
