Former Indian captain Virat Kohli was observed putting in intense practice in the nets on Wednesday, November 20, in preparation for the first Test of the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar series, set to begin on November 22 in Perth.
Kohli is coming off a difficult phase, having struggled in India’s recent home Test series against New Zealand, where he scored only 93 runs from six innings in three matches, contributing to a series loss.
With Rohit Sharma unavailable, Kohli will be expected to step up and lead the batting order as India targets a third consecutive series victory in Australia. On Wednesday, he was seen focusing hard in the nets, refining his technique for the upcoming challenge.

Irfan Pathan Highlights Reasons Why He Believes Virat Kohli Will Excel in BGT 2024-25
Although Virat Kohli’s recent form leading up to the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy has been underwhelming, former all-rounder Irfan Pathan is confident the experienced batter will perform well in Australia.
Despite having scored only 250 runs at an average of 22.72 from six Tests in 2024, with just one half-century, Pathan is confident that Kohli’s knack for performing under tough conditions will enable him to succeed in Australia. Pathan expressed his views in a post on X:
“Why I believe Virat Kohli will excel in Australia: 1) He thrives against pace. Despite his recent dip in Test form, his numbers against pace remain exceptional.”
“Australia’s fast and bouncy pitches will play to his strengths. 2) Kohli feeds off energy and big challenges. The Aussies will come hard at him, and there’s no bigger Test challenge than playing Australia in their backyard. This is when Kohli’s competitive spirit truly shines.”
