In the second Test match against New Zealand, Washington Sundar, an off-spinner for Team India, made a significant contribution by brilliantly removing Tom Blundell. On the first day in Pune, Sundar’s two-wicket haul put India back in the game. Fans and commentators had been talking about his participation in the starting lineup.

Following the startling eight-wicket defeat in the opening Test, India’s skipper, Rohit Sharma, made three changes to the starting lineup. Mohammed Siraj and Kuldeep Yadav were dropped from the starting lineup, and Shubman Gill replaced KL Rahul after recovering from injury. Akash Deep and Washington Sundar also joined the team.

There has been controversy around Washington Sundar’s selection. But his performance on the first day made the move justifiable and gave India a significant breakthrough. With the speed of Akash Deep and Sundar’s all-around skills, India hopes to overcome the Bengaluru defeat. The modifications made to the starting lineup show how open Rohit Sharma is to trying new things and adapting in order to succeed.

Tom Blundell was bowled by Washington Sundar in the final over prior to the tea break. Sundar beat Blundell’s outside edge with the preceding delivery to set up the wicket. The delivery then dipped and spun sharply between Blundell’s bat and pad before he slowed it down to his stumps.

As India returned to the game with consecutive wickets, Sundar rejoiced. Before making his way back to the dressing room, the New Zealand batsman-wicketkeeper only managed three runs. With Daryl Mitchell at the crease scoring 16 runs, Tom Latham’s team lost half of the team for a mere 201 runs.

India is looking to comeback into the series after having lost the first test.
