Chennai Super Kings (CSK) bid farewell to Deepak Chahar after he was released at the IPL 2025 mega auction. Following his departure from CSK, Mumbai Indians (MI) acquired the bowling all-rounder for ₹9.25 crore. This marked the end of Chahar’s seven-year tenure with the franchise.

From 2018 to 2024, Chahar played 76 matches for CSK, taking numerous wickets and helping the team secure three IPL titles in 2018, 2021, and 2023. CSK had engaged in a bidding war with Mumbai Indians for Chahar but eventually withdrew from the race.

CSK posted a reel on their official Instagram account, showcasing some of Deepak Chahar’s memorable moments in the yellow jersey over the years, as they bid him farewell. They captioned the post:

“I’ll Get That Advantage” – Deepak Chahar On Playing For MI At Wankhede In IPL 2025

In a conversation on Jio Cinema, Deepak Chahar shared an anecdote about a past discussion with his cousin Rahul Chahar regarding his move to Mumbai Indians. He said:

“Every time I talk to (cousin) Rahul (Chahar), I say you are playing for the team (MI) I should be playing and I am playing for the team (CSK) you should be playing, skill-wise. Because in Chennai, there is help for the spinners and in Mumbai for fast bowlers. He couldn’t come to Chennai, but I am going to Mumbai. So I will get that advantage.”

Deepak Chahar has had a strong performance at Wankhede Stadium, claiming 13 wickets with an economy rate of 7.11 over 11 IPL matches played at the venue. Rahul Chahar was part of the Mumbai Indians squad from 2018 to 2021. In the IPL 2025 mega auction, Sunrisers Hyderabad successfully secured him with a bid of ₹3.20 crore.
