[WATCH]- Yuzvendra Chahal Takes A Fifer For Northamptonshire Against Derbyshire In The 2024 County Championship Division Two

The ongoing County Championship Division Two match between Northamptonshire and Derbyshire saw Indian leg-spin bowler Yuzvendra Chahal steal the limelight with his performance. He emerged as the most promising bowler for Northamptonshire in the first innings by taking an astounding five wickets.

Northamptonshire were bowled out for a mere 219 runs after they elected to bat first, thus requiring an impressive bowling effort since they had underperformed in batting.

Derbyshire’s batting order was mercilessly torn apart by Chahal who returned with figures of 16.3-2-45-5. This was also his third time to take five wickets in one innings during first-class cricket. Wickets were taken from Aneurin Donald, Zak Chappell, Alex Thomson and Wayne Madsen by this 34-year-old player.

Chahal was able to help put Derbyshire out for 165 and this was largely due to his excellent bowling skills. It’s also noteworthy that in his only match played in the One Day Cup 2024, he scalped five wickets as well with figures of 10-5-14-5 during Northamptonshire’s last group-stage encounter against Kent.

Yuzvendra Chahal was dropped from the Indian team after the 2024 T20 World Cup

Earlier this year, Yuzvendra Chahal made a return into India’s T20I team after being included in the 15-member squad for the T20 World Cup 2024 scheduled for next year. The Men in Blue overcame South Africa by seven runs in order to lift up the highly coveted trophy.

But, Chahal didn’t participate in India’s playing XI even once and the whole tournament saw him on the bench alone. Following this showpiece event, he lost his place again when excluded from five-match T20I series against Zimbabwe played later during trip to Sri Lanka.

Chahal has still not played any T20 World Cup game although he was India’s top wicket-taker in T20Is. The spinner has an impressive haul of 96 wickets from 79 innings at an economy rate of 8.19.

Chahal played his last match for India in August last year where he ended up with poor figures of 4-0-51-0 against West Indies. This year he had a great Indian Premier League (IPL) season and took 18 wickets from 15 matches for Rajasthan Royals (RR).
