Rahul Dravid has faith in Suryakumar Yadav‘s ability to make a comeback in ODIs. India is preparing to face Australia in a three-match ODI series beginning on September 22 at Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium, Mohali.
To provide rest to key players like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, and Kuldeep Yadav, they have been rested for the initial two games in preparation for the ODI World Cup 2023. This absence of senior players presents an opportunity to test India’s bench strength ahead of the major tournament.
Suryakumar Yadav, despite his modest ODI performance so far, has received support from the team management. Indian head coach Rahul Dravid expressed confidence in Suryakumar’s ability to influence matches and hopes to see an improvement in his ODI performance.
“He is in it and we have made our decision to do that and we completely back it. We back him because he has quality and ability that we have seen.”
“Yes, we know we have at the moment seen it in T20 cricket but we know the kind of impact a player like him can make.“
”He can change the course of a game. There is total clarity on the fact that we are completely behind him and hopefully, he will be able to turn it around,” Dravid was quoted as saying by THEWEEK.
Suryakumar Yadav was chosen over Sanju Samson in the Indian squad
Suryakumar Yadav has scored 537 runs in 25 ODIs at an average of 24.40 and a strike rate of 99.81, including two fifties. He was chosen over Sanju Samson, who has performed well in his short ODI career, scoring 390 runs in 12 innings at an average of 55.71 and a strike rate of 104.
However, the team decided to trust Suryakumar more because of his T20I performances, and he will be keen to prove his worth in the upcoming ODI series against Australia.
