Born on September 6, 2002, Chamindu Wickramasinghe is a cricketer from Sri Lanka. He played his inaugural T20 match for Sinhalese Sports Club in the 2020–21 SLC T20 Tournament and List A match for Team Colombo against Team Galle during the 2022–23 Major Clubs Limited Over Tournament
In his Major League Tournament debut, he played for Sinhalese Sports Club against Nugegoda Sports and Welfare Club 25 August 2023. Wickramasinghe became a cricketer because of his grandfather, who had also been a footballer.
He started playing cricket at school, representing St Anthony’s College in Kandy where key milestones were achieved such as achieving 100 runs in his first match for the First XI team and making his maiden hundred within the shortest time during an inter-school limited over competition. Early Life
The grandfather of Wickramasinghe who was also a former football player was the one that influenced him to be a cricketer. He started playing cricket for his school at St. Anthony’s College in Kandy. The milestones of his career as a school cricketer include being a century scorer on his first XI debut and scoring the fastest century in the inter-school limited-overs tournament. He then went on to play under-19 cricket for Sri Lanka.
He played his first T200 match on March 4, 2021, for Sinhalese Sports Club in the SLC T20 Tournament 2020-2021. He made his List A in 2022-23 Major Clubs Limited OverTournament with Team Colombo against Team Galle on 5th July 2022. He also debuted at first-class with Sinhalese Sports Club versus Nugegoda Sports and Welfare Club in the Major League Tournament on August 25th, 2023.
Career
Chamindu made his debut at a franchise tournament playing for Dambulla Sixers in LPL 2024. He scored 181 runs in six innings, including two half centuries and took 7 wickets from 8 innings.
International career
In July 2024, he received his first call-up to the Sri Lanka national team for the T20I series against India.
